The benefits of cycling

This afternoon, I took a ride around the local area on my bike, and I enjoyed every single minute of it. If you live in an area long enough, you take it for granted. Do you want to change that? then get out on your bike, and take a circular route around the outskirts of your town. I promise you you will see things you have never noticed before. Don't ride too quickly, and don't worry about improving fitness just yet, go steady, enjoy, and take it all in. It doesn't have to be an expensive bike that you ride either, the point is getting out there and riding.

Notice the smells of the countryside, smells you miss in your car. Take in the buildings, fields, wildlife. Feel the cool air on your skin in the shade, and the heat in the sun. Be totally aware of it all. If necessary, stop to have a look around, nobody is rushing you! notice the change in pace from your car, and enjoy your time alone.

The time on my bike today allowed me to think. I could feel my thoughts becoming clearer as my body did the work, and my mind was freed from the usual distractions. This is good! few people will begrudge you the time to exercise, so make the most of it and enjoy the benefits on many levels.
Think of it like this.
  • You will be fitter
  • you could lose weight
  • you will have more energy
  • you feel better
  • you see more
  • you are not polluting anything....
Six simple reasons to get a bike. I'm sure I could think of many more, but I hope I have made my point. Does your employer have a cycle to work scheme? maybe you could take advantage of that or look into it, borrow a bike off a friend to see if you like it, hire a bike, use freecycle to find a bike, or check the free ads in the supermarket. Give it a try and I'm sure you won't be disappointed.
